Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

We started our midsemester exams yesterday and we basically have an exam everyday until Thursday

The first two exams were okay Alhamdulilah, but I am more worried about the last two exams !

Well, I might not be active this week, but I will be back soon inshaAllah

GPC 2011

I participated in GPC 2011 last week. It's a programming competition between groups of university students. The problems this year were difficult and most groups only solved 1 problem (the same problem actually lol). We attempted three or four problems, but none were accepted by the judges unfortunately.

We were sure about two of them, but we didnt get any score. The thing is, when I returned home, I found the silly mistake in the code and the program worked !

My teammate also found the error in the code of the other problem, but it was too late

I hope we'll do better next year
